1) What change were you wanting to make when you started Carbon?

When I first started using Carbon I was still going through chemotherapy. I wanted to get a head start on my weight loss journey as well as develop a better understanding of nutrition and how it impacted my day-to-day life. Losing the excess body fat I gained while going through chemo was the intent, but I gained a whole lot more insights into how to thrive with a sustainable and balanced diet.

2) What struggles did you encounter as you were working through those changes?

Chemotherapy changes everything in terms of smell and taste. Even though I was tracking with Carbon, it was hard to meet certain macro goals because not a whole lot of food tasted very good. Some days I would have mostly ultra processed foods as those were all I could keep down due to high palatability. Even though this was a struggle I kept tracking food anyway. I figured it was better to still see and be mindful of how I was eating. Through that realization I was able to let go of “perfection” and shift my focus towards consistency.

3) What was different about Carbon?

I had tracked and weighed food in the past, but I never gelled with other apps. What stood out to me was the intuitive AI coach making the necessary changes based on feedback. I also appreciated that tracking with “balanced diet” turned on meant there were no good or bad foods. Only foods that were more or less nutrient dense. Seeing this within the circles that represent your macros will make it easier mentally to make the right decisions daily to get closer to your goal. What stands out the most to me is the individualized approach from the app. If you’re honest with your tracking and provide adequate feedback in the weekly check-ins I promise you’ll see results. As Layne says “Carbon works when you do”.

4) Tell us about the moment you realized Carbon was fundamental in solving your problem.

I had prepared myself that this process would take time as the weight didn’t get put on overnight. After tracking for 2 months consistently for weight loss and watching the trending weight down over 10lbs was when I knew this was a tool crucial to my continued progress. I was motivated by seeing the graph of the gradual weight loss in the app and it egged me on to keep going.

5) Tell us what life looks like now that you are finding success with Carbon.

Life looks so much better! I’ve been using Carbon since January of 2024 and it was one of the best decisions I made for my overall health. In the time I’ve been using Carbon I’ve lost over 35lbs and feel even healthier and stronger than I did before I got cancer. I am so thankful Carbon exists as it was just the right tool I needed.
