1) What change were you wanting to make when you started Carbon?
I have been using Carbon off and on for probably about 3 years. I think even back then what it was capable of offering was leaps and bounds better than its competitors like myfitnesspal or lose it. For the $10 cheaper you get all the same functionality and then some for MyFitnessPal. Very user friendly, no ads, and overall a seamless interface.
2) What struggles did you encounter as you were working through those changes?
My biggest struggle during that period initially was consistency. Or letting one thing get me derailed for days or weeks at a time. I worked for years in the craft beer industry and most of my friends still do, so when we hang out we eat good food and drink a lot. That was a constant struggle and still is. But carbon has made it incredibly manageable between the alcohol tracker and having the ability to lock and plan your day via the calorie planner.
3) What was different about Carbon?
Carbon was just incredibly easy to use. The price point and what you get for it made it a no brainer. My favorite thing is the ability to make a meal out of it with the recipe builder. I love to cook, and I have probably about 2-3 dozen cookbooks I use. And mainly from StealthHealth or Flexible Dieting Lifestyle. I’m never going to be the person that eats chicken and rice daily. So I opt in for foods that in theory are a little bit more time consuming or difficult to make but I will never sacrifice taste. The alcohol tracker was massive, while I don’t drink nearly as much anymore, having the ability to track the abv of whatever beer I’m drinking and converting it effortlessly was a lifesaver.
4) Tell us about the moment you realized Carbon was fundamental in solving your problem.
I realized I had really let myself go. I’ve been weightlifting since I was 18, and I’ve always had the kind of body that could put on size easily and drop weight just as easily. But over the last ten years, I let myself do whatever I wanted with food and drinks, joking that I was on a “ten-year bulk.” Half of me was kidding, but half of me was just settling and saying I wasn’t going to change.
That’s when I decided to hire my old coach, the one I’ve worked with off and on for the past decade. He probably knows my body better than anyone, even me. He didn’t know much about Carbon, but I told him that if I was really going to commit this time, using Carbon was non-negotiable.
5) Tell us what life looks like now that you are finding success with Carbon.
Life with Carbon has become part of my daily routine. I log almost everything, and if I miss something, I don’t lose sleep over it. I truly see it as an invaluable tool for anyone looking to change their life and move toward a healthier place.
Carbon gives me everything I need to succeed without feeling like I’m sacrificing my life. I can stay healthy, be present with my family, and pass on those benefits to them. My wife now uses Carbon and loves it too. I even use the recipes I build in the app to feed my kids.
